Planned Giving

What if you could leave a legacy that empowers independent journalism to inspire change and spread truth and knowledge throughout the world? By including Truthout in your estate plans, you can play a significant role in strengthening our future for generations to come.

Planned giving is a gift that you set up during your lifetime to take effect after your passing. There are several kinds of planned gifts you can make to Truthout. The possible options include cash, publicly traded securities, non-publicly traded assets, retirement plans and life insurance policies.

Make Truthout a beneficiary of your will

Remembering Truthout with a bequest from your estate will help sustain and strengthen independent news in years to come. Some of the advantages of creating a bequest include:

  • A bequest costs you nothing now, yet gives you the satisfaction of knowing you have provided for Truthout in the future;
  • You retain control of and use of your assets during your lifetime;
  • You may modify your bequest if your circumstances change;
  • Gifts to Truthout from your estate are exempt from federal estate taxes;
  • If you tell Truthout of your plans, we will be able to thank and recognize you now.

You may make a bequest or gift through your estate by including a provision in your will or living trust, or by naming Truthout as a beneficiary of a retirement plan or life insurance policy. A bequest to Truthout can be made for a specific amount, for a percentage of your estate, or for all or a portion of what is left after you have made bequests to your family.

To make a gift to Truthout from your estate, you must sign a new will or living trust instrument, add a codicil to your present will, or make an amendment to your present trust instrument. Alternatively, you can designate Truthout as a beneficiary of a retirement plan or life insurance policy. To do so, contact the retirement plan administrator or life insurance company and complete the appropriate beneficiary designation form.

Let us thank you

If you have included Truthout in your estate plans, please let us know. We would like to thank you for your generosity, make sure the purpose of your gift is understood by the organization, and recognize your contribution.
